Our animals bring love, joy and companionship to our lives and,
though they ask for little, they deserve the best care possible.
Notice how it feels when you touch your companion animal. There
is the obvious softness of their fur, but, if you pay attention,
there is also a feeling of the love they are sending and a feeling
of connection with something greater than ourselves.
Just as we experience tension in our everyday life, so do
our animals. Activity and change as well as boredom and
loneliness can cause tension. Some tension is natural but all
can lead to dis-ease if not taken care of.
Tension causes fascia (connective tissue) to restrict blood
flow to muscles. When muscles aren't hydrated by
oxygenated blood, they shorten and become painful.
Touch with specifically applied pressure helps circulate the
blood to all tissues and cells of the body, bringing them
needed oxygen, hormones and nutrients. As the blood brings
nutrients to the tissues, it moves waste products away to
be filtered out by the organs.

While petting and rubbing is vitally important, the
specific and deliberate techniques of touch
focused on pressure and direction will help bring
the circulation your animal companion needs.
